Waiting on Wednesday (41): THIS SAVAGE SONG

WoW is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine!

Author: Victoria Schwab
Release date: July 5, 2016

Summary: Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city--a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be a ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent--but he's one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who's just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August's secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seethign metropolis, one worth of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side--including the monsters within.

Thoughts: Okay, so I've yet to read any Victoria Schwab at all. But this sounds SO GOOD. Especially with the inclusion of music? Sounds right up my alley. And who knows? Maybe this book will be the one to get me into the world of Victoria Schwab finally!

However, there's something more to Mya's cool disdain...a history wrought with loss that comes to light when another clan arrives. With them is Lo, an enemy of Mya's past who Mya swears has ulterior motives.

As Kol gets to know Lo, tensions between Mya and Lo escalate ujntil violence erupts. Faced with shattering losses, Kol is forced to question every person he's trusted. One thing is for sure: this was a war that Mya or Lo--Kol doesn't know which--had been planning all along.

Thoughts: I've followed Julie Eshbaugh on Pub(lishing) Crawl for a long time, and so I've been waiting for this book for a long time. I've known about it for what seems like a few years, and it's finally coming out this summer! And it sounds very intriguing, and unlike anything I've read before!

Waiting on Wednesday (39): MY LADY JANE

WoW is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine!

Title: My Lady Jane
Authors: Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows
Release date: June 7, 2016

Summary: Lady Jane Grey, sixteen, is about to married to a total stranger--and caught up in an insidious plot to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But that's the leaset of Jane's problems. She's about to become Queen of England. Like that could go wrong.

Thoughts: This is a historical retelling, which usually isn't really my jam. But I've loved everything I've read from Cynthia Hand, and I've heard great things about the other two authors. And honestly, I don't know much about Jane Grey, but a brief perusal of her Wikipedia page left me very interested in her, and especially this YA-retold version!
